What is Todai Forum for?

What is the relationship between Human Security and Business? While the concept of Human Security has been advocated by Japan and other countries, various international organisations, civil societies and academics, there has been too little indepth research examining the issues related to business, which is an important actor for this concept. This forum proposes to bring together global business and academia to explore human security as a key concept with which to address sustainable business as a mechanism for dealing with global issues, such as conflicts, human mobility and governance, all interrelated subjects necessitating the development of more comprehensive remedies. We seek, therefore, innovative new research ? by political scientists, economists, anthropologists, sociologists, lawyers, historians, social scientists, human rights activists as well as those practitioners involved in development and cooperation for human security (freedom from fear and want) ? in the form of cutting-edge case studies in the fields of conflict, human mobility, and governance for sustainable peace in relation to business as a promoter and spoiler.

On 26 April, students from the University of Tokyo and UK universities will explore the topic more broadly by discussing, for example, gHow To Create Sustainable Peace.
On the same day,Justice Hisashi Owada of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), as a prominent practitioner and scholar of international law, is invited to give the keynote speech on the main theme of human security and business. Three main issues ? conflict, human mobility, and governance ? will be discussed by professors from the University of Tokyo (UoT), with UK universities participating in respective panels.
